First Visit? Start at the Scale House

If you are unsure where to go, start at the Scale House. When you enter Kelmor's yard through the yellow gate, the Scale House is up the hill straight ahead. You will usually see trucks and vehicles stopping there.

Drive up to the window with your driver’s side facing the Scale House. You do not need to get out of your vehicle.

At the Scale House, you can:

  • Ask questions

  • Get a paper yard map

  • Confirm an online pickup order

  • Ask where a product is located

  • Pay before or after loading

Michelle is usually in the Scale House Monday to Friday. Please use the window only. The Scale House office is staff only.

How Shopping Works

Think of our yard like a drive-through garden material store.

You collect what you need, then drive to the Scale House window to pay or confrim your pickup for an online order.

The self-serve area is at the very front of the Kelmor yard. If you already know what you want and you are using the self-serve area, you can go straight there, load your material, then drive to the Scale House to tell us what you picked up and pay.

We accept cash or card.

If you are unsure what you need, stop at the Scale House first. We are happy to help.

Main Yard vs Self-Serve Area

Kelmor has two main customer areas:

The Self-Serve Area

The self-serve area is best for homeowners and smaller DIY projects.

Use this area if you are bringing and loading:

  • Buckets

  • Bins

  • Containers

  • A pickup truck

  • A small trailer

There are shovels available on site. Please return them when you are finished.

The self-serve area has many of our most popular homeowner products, including topsoil blends, mulch, river rock, clear crush, crusher dust, washed sand, and playground chips. See the full list below.

This area is smaller, easier to navigate, and designed for customers who do not need the loader or large quantities of materials.

What’s in the Self-Serve Area?

The Main Yard

The main yard has our full selection of materials and larger product piles. If you want to see everything we carry before you visit, browse our full product list here.

Homeowners are welcome in the main yard too, but please remember it is an active work yard.

You will see dump trucks, truck and transfers (truck with trailers), loaders, pickup trucks, and heavy equipment moving throughout the day.

Drive slowly. Stay alert. Give trucks and loaders lots of room and right of way.

Finding Your Product

We have added new product signs around the yard to help customers find what they need. Most product signs are located beside the material bins or concrete bays. Many signs have arrows to show which product is which.

You can also use our yard maps before you arrive or ask for a paper copy at the Scale House.

If you are not sure, ask us before loading.

Our staff member Gary is often sat in his white pickup truck near the entrance to help customers. Brad is usually around the upper yard and Scale House area in his pickup truck. Both have worked around the yard for decades and know our materials well. They are happy to help first-time customers.

How Self-Serve Loading Works

Self-serve loading is simple:

  • Find the product you need.

  • Back up to the bin with your trunk, truck bed, or trailer facing the product.

  • Use the shovels provided.

  • Load what you need.

  • Return the shovels.

  • Secure your load.

  • Drive to the Scale House window to pay.

  • Please keep children and pets inside the vehicle.

  • Material can be heavier than it looks, so check your vehicle or trailer weight limit before loading.

How Loader Loading Works

Our loader is for larger orders. There is a $30 minimum for loader loading. Most customers only need the loader if they are buying a larger amount, usually around a ton or more.

If you need the loader:

  • Start at the Scale House.

  • Pay or confirm your order.

  • Drive to your product using the map or staff directions.

  • Back up safely to the product bay.

  • Stay in your vehicle.

  • Wait for the loader.

  • The Scale House and yard team communicate by radio. The loader operator will know you are waiting.

  • Please do not approach the loader or try to speak to the operator while they are working. Loaders have blind spots and need plenty of space.

  • The loader will come to you.

  • After loading, drop-in customers must return to the Scale House to pay if they have not already paid.

Online Orders and Pickup

You can also order online before visiting. Shop our full product list here.

When you arrive to collect, stop at the Scale House to confirm your receipt. Then collect your product.

If you prefer to load first, that is fine too. Just make sure you report to the Scale House before leaving. Every customer must go through the Scale House at some point, either to pay or to confirm pickup.

Safety Tips for the Yard

Kelmor is a working yard, so safety matters.

Please follow these tips:

  • Heavy equipment and dump trucks have the right of way.

  • Stay in your vehicle while waiting.

  • Keep children and pets inside the vehicle.

  • Do not climb on material piles.

  • Do not walk around the yard.

  • Do not enter the Scale House.

  • Use the Scale House window.

  • Make eye contact before moving near trucks or equipment.

  • Give loaders and trucks a wide space.

  • Follow all signs, cones, and staff directions.

  • Secure your load before leaving.

  • If you feel unsure, ask our team. We would rather help before you load than have you feel confused in the yard.
